Steel Bridge 2008

Hey ALL!
So PSWRC didn't exactly go to plan... Congratulations to Cal Poly Pomona, UC San Diego and University of Hawaii! To put it simple, our bridge was disqualified because we failed the lateral load test. Although we were disqualified, we are all happy with our bridge, and proud of it. We actually put together our own bridge, spending countless hours in the good ol' structures lab welding, cutting and grinding. This is what our primary goal was, to actually fabricate our own bridge, and we did it! and it was awesome! Thank you to all of you who came out and helped us out, we really appreciated it and the bridge would not have been completed if it were not for you. So thank you!

For all you seniors... Jackie Young, Donson Liu, Jay Kim and Jason Hong...
This year was great BECAUSE of you! It is because of you that we had a bridge this year, not only a bridge, BUT A FREAKING AWESOME BRIDGE! A FREAKING AWESOME PINK BRIDGE! So thank you for all that you did for Steel Bridge, and next year, we will make you proud!

For everyone else that are not seniors.... Be ready to make another awesome bridge, spend countless hours in the structures lab fabricating and countless hours in airb designing!

5 days until PSWRC!

We've been working all Spring Break (it's over already?!) and we're really proud of ourselves! The bridge has been tested for the full lateral load test and half of the vertical load test. School resumes tomorrow and our construction team has a full academic load, so we're practicing 6:30-9am Mon-Wed. Come out and watch us behind the structures lab if you can wake up :)

Winter Design Review

Once again we are preparing for the MAE Design Review. This time, we have decided to put most of our work into the bridge, not the presentation. It'll be interesting. MAE's hate us anyway! We're not trying to impress them anyway! We put up a picture of the slaves of steel bridge. Enjoy!

Update

We started fabrication of the bridge Thursday! So far, we have finished one leg and one girder. We also have cut a lot of steel. Thanks to those who helped out this past week!

SAP2000

Alex and I have been working on the the analysis of the bridge for a few days now. It looks like we're getting the hang of SAP2000!

MAE Design Review Friday 12/07/07

This past week we scrambled to fabricate our 1/4 scale steel bridge. We started building on Saturday and didn't finish until Thursday evening. Long nights and lots of fast food. Our presenters (Me, Donson, Alex, Jay, and Josephine) stayed up practicing and preparing for a fabulous Powerpoint presentation. And we were pretty spectacular. Thanks to all of you who helped us this week!

Welding Weekend

Hey HEY HEY!!!!
So apparently we haven't updated in a while, so this past meeting, tuesday, we attempted to finish up designs and began to schedule welding times for this weekend so we can work on our model bridge. This Saturday, we are going to be welding in the structures lab from 10-4, and then again on Sunday as well. We are trying to get all the equipment set up by friday so we can hop straight to welding saturday. So come out, weld, bond with your fellow steel bridge-ers and have fun!!!! YAY!!!! ok... hope you all had a good thanksgiving and good luck getting ready for finals!
