Tonight we had another successful steel bridge meeting. I mean successful in that we got the admin stuff out of the way pretty fast, and were really starting to get everyone working, which is really really good.
BUT. Admin stuff.
1. Bonfire with CPP ASCE this weekend, saturday at 4pm, at CDM.
2. T Shirt Designs, if you have them, well take it.
3. Welding and Lab Safety video, everyone should watch them.
We're concentrating everyone on designing the legs, truss, decking, and connections. Everyone seems to be learning a lot, so that is even better.
Design Team Captains:
legs-Jason?
truss-Donson
decking-Jackie?
connections-Christina?
If you're a design team captain, please update with us on saturday by shooting an email to ucisteelbridge@gmail.com to tell us how its going!

Design Meeting
A few of us got together Thursday afternoon to brainstorm the shape of our bridge. After some very in depth discussion and debates, we narrowed our options. Brilliant! Now we need to throw our preliminary design into AutoCAD and analyze it. We're going to finish up by sizing the members on this Sunday (5pm) at Jason's. If you want to go to that, please let me (ucisteelbridge@gmail.com) we're eating dinner there.
A couple reminders on things you and I are really excited to do before our next Tuesday meeting.
1. go over the rules (again and again and again)! They are long, the last page is the best page.
www.aisc.org/steelbridge
2. watch the fun welding videos (watching with a friend makes it fun-nier). I watched it with Christina... well half of one. Who are you going to watch it with? Here are the links:

3. if you haven't paid yet, remember to!
That's all for now. See you Tuesday.

Meeting 10/23/07
Hey Y'all
So this meeting we were Jackie-less, which meant Donson and I had to run the show... we all know how that turned out...
Anyways, we started off discussing our research material, i.e. different bridge types, then split up into partners and attempted to design a bridge. Fairly short meeting and a little unorganized, but we learned what bridge is most efficient for our project, as well as what bridges we simply cannot do.
We decided to have another meeting this Thursday, around 2, to finalize, or attempt to finalize the design, we will email about where and when later on tonight or tomorrow. Check your emails!
Next meeting is next Tuesday, same time, same place!
That's all for tonight!

Second Official Steel Bridge Meeting!
Not bad at all! 10+ people showed up, and they all seem very enthusiastic about the project even after the initial fee. This is good.
We went over the basic basic rules of the competition, and assigned groups to research different bridge components.
We're also looking into other types of bridges besides the trusses normally seen at competition, such as cable stay, suspension, girder, and hybrids of any type. We plan on discussing the pros and cons and feasibilities of other bridge types and configurations of each at next Tuesday's meeting.
We will start the design process with the entire team next Tuesday.
There will be a field trip after next meeting to Alejandro's since noone seems to know what it is.

FIRST MEETING!!!
HEY Y'ALL!!!
Alrighty, so today was our FIRST OFFICIAL steel bridge meeting! Slightly rushed to go to the ASCE social event, but a meeting none the less.
To begin, I am pretty pleased with the turn out... about 20 people signed up on the sign-in sheet, which is awesomedonson. So we ran through the logistics of the bridge, i.e. us wanting to fabricate it all this year, as well as all the administrative aspects. Remember, all of those... you... who want to fully participate, we will need $75 by the next meeting... Tuesday the 16!!!
So to further update all of you, we have the official rules for 2008 Steel Bridge Competition:
http://www.aisc.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Learning_Opportunities/University_Programs/Student_Competitions1/AISC_Student_Steel_Bridge_Competition/AISC_Student_Steel_Bridge_Competition.htm
As well as the welding videos we received courtesy of Robert Smith of the Mechanical Engineering Department:
http://itc.uci.edu/welding_02.mov
this is one of them, the other is currently not working so we'll post again when get the correct link.
****NEXT MEETING!!!****
DATE: TUESDAY OCTOBER 16 8:15 PM
LOCATION: TBA (so check back later in the week or check your emails!)
We are going to be working on design, collecting money ($75) and other administrative parts.
Come out! Get to meet us a little more than just seeing Jackie dressed as a cowgirl, Donson with a mask on, and me shirtless, AND! work on bridge designs!!! What's more to want?
With this, I take my leave with a picture of EVERYONE's favorite bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge! GO NORCAL!!!

New Blog!
Hello UCISteelBridge followers,
We've decided to start a blog to record our meetings, ideas, photos and anything else we want to remember and/or share. It'll also give us another account to update and check.
Today's meeting was just with us directors. Let me introduce ourselves.

We planned for an introduction at the first ASCE general meeting, Tuesday 6:30 in ICF 103, but more importantly, the first steel bridge meeting! It's taking place after the general, so stick around.
First Steel Bridge Meeting
Time: 8:15pm
